SRA began regular deliveries of zinc concentrate from its Gordonsville mining complex on April 9, 2008. The mining complex comprises the Elmwood, Gordonsville, Carthage, Stonewall and Cumberland underground zinc mines, the undeveloped East Carthage zinc deposit, and the Gordonsville mill and concentrator.
The Mid-Tennessee Mines are located approximately 50 miles east of Nashville, Tennessee and the project area is serviced by the L&N Railroad (with tidewater access), an existing road system, ready access to water and supplies, a major international airport located in Nashville and with power by the Tennessee Valley Authority. While operating, the Middle Tennessee Mines historically employed an average of 260 employees and SRA have found that a combination of broad management skills, advanced technical skills, and a motivated and well-trained workforce remains in the area and is available for the restart of operations.
Corporate Strategy
SRA is pursuing a corporate strategy that focuses on taking advantage of the strengths of its existing management team, particularly with respect to management's extensive experience in mining operations and resource project management.
There is good potential to define additional zinc mineralization in the Mid-Tennessee Mines area. The initial life of the restarted mining operations based on only Indicated Resources (WGM Technical Report, dated May 10, 2007) is six years (12.5 million tons of Indicated Mineral Resource) but the mine life can be extended to 10 years by upgrading the current Inferred Mineral Resource of 16.6 million tons. Additional mineral resource can be added through exploration activities and accordingly, an aggressive exploration program utilizing modern geophysical and other exploration techniques was being pursued with the objective of maximizing the mineral resource under its control.
